This year the 1996 ARLIS/SE is being held in the Garden City, Augusta,
Georgia. The planned program includes a guided tour of historic Augusta,
a visit to the Ida Kohlmeyer Recent Works exhibit at the Morris
Museum of Art (MMA), a meeting with Mr. Starkey Flythe, Jr, former editor
of the Saturday Evening Post, who will speak about Southern art
and literature, and, of course, our business meeting and banquet.
Our meeting and lodging will be at The Partridge Inn, a historic
bed and breakfast on the Summerville Hillside which affords a magnificent
view of the town. For those staying over Saturday, an optional guided
tour of the historic homes of Madison, Georgia, lunch and travel through
the historic Washington, Georgia are on the agenda. Other stay over
events to attend on your own are the Hispanic Festival at the downtown
Augusta Riverfront, or maybe a UGA football game up the road in Athens.
Milledgeville, Georgia's first capital and home of Flannery O'Connor,
and Eatonton's Uncle Remus Musem are also within driving distance from
Augusta. I will be glad to help you plan your stay.
I look forward to welcoming ya'll to Augusta. If I can answer questions
about the information I have included or escluded here, please contact
me. See you soon...
